Sir Arthur Carty was extremely fortunate to have world renowned author, Tima Kurdi, visit us on March 12th. Tima’s book - The Boy on the Beach - told the story of her nephew, two year old Aylan Kurdi and his family, and their efforts to come to Canada as refugees from Syria in 2015.
Tragically Aylan, his brother Galib, and his mother Rehana, drowned crossing from Turkey to Greece on September 2nd, 2015.
A picture of Aylan on the beach that morning was broadcast worldwide and was one of those moments when the whole world seemed to care about the war and refugee plight in Syria.
Tima shared her powerful message with all of our Grade 4 to Grade 8 students and we all learned so much from her.
A huge thanks to Miss Banks and her Grade 5/6 class for taking such a strong lead in bringing Tima to our school.
